We have a new set of ducks, the person at the feed store when we bought them as little ducklings told us that they were runner ducks but they are not. We are not sure what kind of mixed up ducks these are but we like them, they big and fat and have a nice waddle. :-)
We lost our fun and funny runner ducks. We think it may have been a fox coming in through the back fence and he must have thought it was a mighty fine town-o and he didn't mind the quack, quack, quack or the legs that were dangling down-o because he came back and took them one at a time until we only had one left, then the boys lined the back fence with chicken wire and the disappearing duck problem stopped. Three of them the girls had hatched in the room and they imprinted on them so they were really sad but Kjirsten insists that the one runner left is hers. He is the leader of the new duck pack when they go out to quack and talk and talk and quack and then go back. We will see if we get some eggs in the spring.
Everything went good with Joshua's surgery depending on how you look at it. It turned out to be a lot more complicated than they were planning. It was supposed to be day surgery. We had to be there at 6:30 am and then we were supposed to go home around 1:00 and the surgery itself was supposed to take only 30 minutes but it turned out to take 3 hours and then he had a lot of trouble with his oxygen levels in his blood. They kept us there overnight and all the next day doing tests and X-rays on him all night long, Jerry and I got almost no sleep for 48 hours. A team of 4 cardiologists showed up and told us that he has a double heart murmur and now we have to go back for more tests as soon as they call us and tell us when they can see him. It seems like every time we finally get all settled in to what's going on something new comes up.
He is doing pretty good now at home, he was so glad when we finally left the hospital. He was getting to where he would see any doctor and grab me around the neck and hang on for dear life crying and then try to push them away. When we walked up to the car he got really excited to see it and urged us on in almost a panic to get in pointing and pulling like "quick! lets make a break for it and escape this place, hurry run!" he was just as happy to see we came to Katie's house and hugged the girls with big smiles and then very relived to get home last night. It was a really rough two days for him there.
